Calgary Herald Editorial.  The Ballad of Wiebo Ludwig.  Despite the unsolved killing of teenager Karman Willis on his Trickle Creek commune and his conviction as an oilfield bomber, the headstrong radical Wiebo Ludwig may well go down in history, or at least in the eyes of many, as an Alberta folk hero.

"It's Our Oil"

Have you seen the TV ads by an outfit calling itself “Stand Up, Alaska,” purportedly a group of ordinary Alaska citizens anxious to head off what they call a “$10 billion giveaway” in tax reductions for the North Slope oil companies?

Vance.  "Really?" (With eyebrows raised, questioning logic of leasing out an asset then claiming it is "ours" to justify the most anti-competitive, unsustainable tax/regulatory structure in the free world.)

Here is our "Tweet" today.  -dh

The organization -which has the look of something cobbled together on a kitchen table to provide political cover for Dems and fellow travelers in Juneau who are trying to sabotage oil tax reform – wants to keep sticking it to the North Slope oil companies. After all, it says, “it’s our oil,” even though it is not. “Our oil” is the royalty we get. The rest we sold and now tax. What this decidedly left-leaning bunch apparently really supports is Alaska’s Clear and Equitable Share oil tax, foisted on Alaska by Sarah Palin to steal about $2 billion more annually from the companies’ shareholders than the state actually needs for its operations. Government for profit. A swell idea..
