American Truckers Support OCS
Reader Aves Thompson, Executive Director of the Alaska Trucking Association, reports that the American Trucking Association has asked the Federal government to expedite Alaska OCS development. "On July 1," Thompson reported, "the ATA filed comments with the Bureau of Ocean Energy, Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) in support of drilling in Alaska’s Chukchi Sea. ATA’s comments were filed in response to a court-ordered supplemental environmental impact statement, which must be finalized before the government can commence leasing of the area for petroleum development. ATA noted that developing the U.S. petroleum reserves in the Chukchi Sea is critically important to reducing our dependence upon foreign oil and urged the Department of Interior to finalize the environmental review process and move forward with Lease Sale 193." The national association contact is: Rich Moskowitz at rmoskowitz@trucking.org. -dh (Here is where we have inventoried samples of Chukchi comment and testimony.)
ADN Editorial: Dan Fauske (NGP Photo) offered a panel of lawmakers and the public plenty to think about on Tuesday. In introducing his report on the Alaska Stand Alone Gas Pipeline (ASAP), Fauske said state ownership of such a line would be the most economical way to build it at about $7.5 billion.
