Must Read Alaska Report (link below): “Fitzpatrick replaces Rose Alcantra, who was released this summer by the agency, which is operating under close guidance from the Office of the Governor, with Deputy Chief of Staff Grace Jang keeping tabs on the agency’s every move. The construction of a gasline is Gov. Bill Walker’s primary focus and one of his main campaign promises when he ran in 2014.

(Note: Your publisher served as AGDC’s first external affairs management advisor in 2011.
After discovering the potential for inefficiencies, corruption, inability to respond to market realities, the falsehood of agency independence and resistance to free market principles, he resigned the position. We don’t know if two other external affairs supervisors following him left for similar reasons. We do know that Mr. Fitzpatrick, a highly accomplished and capable communication professional, will likely encounter professional conundrums.
A spokesman/lobbyist for a government agency, spending public money, striving to compete in the private sector, faces all kinds of human resources and contractor challenges. In that circumstance, one cannot help but encounter tensions that test one’s integrity and patience vs. the reality of an as yet infeasible public enterprise attempting to become a world class energy competitor while risking the wealth of the State of Alaska. -dh)
