ADN by Sean Cockerham.  Governor Sean Parnell (NGP Photo-L) sent a letter to legislators blaming the Senate for the logjam. The governor’s office then confirmed that Parnell is not going to negotiate with the Senate over what projects he may or may not veto. That closes what senators thought could be an exit out of the special session.  "Writing a letter like this is like throwing a bomb down the chimney," said Sitka Republican Sen.Bert Stedman (NGP Photo-R).  Stedman said Parnell earlier expressed openness to talking about projects and working out a deal. "I don’t quite know what to do now," he said.

Our Comment: Senator Stedman and Senate President Gary Stevens are both moving the Senate –not unexpetedly — in a direction that is beginning to attract spiteful comedy and criticism, as this cartoon produced by technical writer Deborah Brollini suggests.  Also, see letter below.  -dh

Here’s a letter from an Alaskan business leader that symbolizes constituent opposition to Senate decisions:

Speaker Chenault,

I read your speech and want you to know I support your position and appreciate very much your leadership in Juneau!! Thank you for representing the interests of present and future Alaskans in a measured and thoughtful way.

I have copied your fellow members of the House as well as your colleagues in the Senate on this email so they know my support for your position on this very important issue.

I hope that all of your fellow House members support you as well and refuse to take action on a Capital Budget until you’ve all had the requisite time to review and solicit public comment.

Lon G. Wilson
President
