11-2-12 – Alaska Economist Publishes Trans Alaska Pipeline Property Tax Analysis: “Double Taxation”

Calgary Herald by Kelly Cryderman.  The public is still in the dark when it comes to the progress made and dollars spent on Alberta’s homegrown strategy to curb greenhouse gas emissions.... Alaska is engaging in double taxation of the Trans Alaska Pipeline (TAPS) via a property tax that causes assets to be depreciated more than once.  In an analysis now appearing in the Journal of Legal Issues and Cases in Business, well known Alaska Economist Roger Marks (NGP Photo) noted that the current TAPS property tax burden results from a 2005 [...]

8-27-12 Alaska’s Governor Accuses Obama Administration of Hurting Alaska’s and America’s Economies

Last Friday Governor Sean Parnell (NGP Photo) wrote the Chairmen of the Senate and House committees responsible for energy and natural resource policy.  He said: "At a press conference recently, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar blamed Shell Oil for the delays in drilling exploration wells in the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas.  This premise is  patently false. The attachment clearly displays a pattern of federal obstruction designed to prevent development of Alaska's abundant resource base.  Decisions by the federal administration have negatively impacted Alaska's economy and, in fact, the entire nation. Repeated federal actions have led [...]

Salazar’s BOEMRE Grants Shell Exploration Permit, Conditionally – Inuvik Pushes For Gas Pipe and Economic Development – Mark Hamilton Levels the Guns of Logic On Anti-development Liberals

A few minutes ago, NGP received the copy of a "Make Alaska Competitive Coalition" statement by former University of Alaska President Mark Hamilton (NGP Photo) smashing a specious contention by Senator Hollis French and Representative Les Gara (i.e. both downtown Anchorage attorneys are schooled in the art of rhetoric) that Alaska's predatory taxes are good for Alaska.   Here is the document for your weekend study.    Between Obama anti-development regulators in the Federal arena and the same mentality hindering development on Alaska lands, the state has a dismal economic [...]
