In a letter to then-Natural Resources Commissioner Dan Sullivan, dated Sept. 20, Ashe said in part that the state misinterpreted agency regulations and submitted a plan years too late.

Natural Resources Committee: Obama Administration Assault on American Mining Jobs

On Thursday, October 10th, the House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources will hold an oversight hearing on “EPA vs. American Mining Jobs: The Obama Administration’s Regulatory Assault on the Economy.”  Burdensome red-tape, onerous federal regulations, and abusive actions by the Obama Administration, particularly by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), have shuttered mining operations across the country.  These actions have cost thousands of American jobs and blocked the production of essential minerals and raw materials that help provide low-cost energy and are used in everyday products.  Preemptively withdrawing land from mineral development, retroactively canceling permits, and armed raids like the one that recently occurred in Chicken, Alaska only serve to hurt our economy and our national security.  This hearing will examine the EPA’s recent actions and offer solutions to grow America’s mining industry in order to protect and create American jobs and grow the economy.
