MMS Deadline TODAY – NO Combined Denali-TransCanada In the Cards?

Commentary.  The MMS has been seeking comment until TODAY (June 30), on its OCS leasing plan for the period 2012-17.  Its decision could shut down this true economic stimulus for years to come.  It could cause the economic downfall of Alaska by constricting Trans Alaska Pipeline replacement oil throughput and lowering the potential for gas pipeline throughput.  A restrictive lease sale program could harm most other states in varying, significant degrees.  In large part, this decision process depends on your weighing in.  To have your opinion counted, please go to this [...]

MMS Seeks Comment on 2012-17 Leasing Plan — PLEASE COMMENT

The MMS is seeking comment now, until next week (June 30), on its OCS leasing plan for the period 2012-17.

Yesterday We Warned (too late) Against Using Energy As A Weapon – Salazar is “chilling the resumption of OCS activities” –

Commentary: Yesterday, we warned that Canada's decision to deprive China of oil sands energy because of its contribution to carbon emissions could result in a growing trend (spreading in Russia and Europe) toward using energy as a political and social weapon in international diplomacy.  As I was writing that message a 'greening' U.S. Congress was doing precisely what I feared, attacking Canada's oil sands carbon footprint (See the article below).  Those U.S. Congressmen involved are especially short-sighted insofar as their Administration allies insist on diminishing U.S. energy production by putting [...]

Are Canada and the United States Amputating their Energy Noses to Spite their Political Faces?

Read our commentary below, then comment yourself! To our friends attending the Inuvik Petroleum Show: Enjoy the Musk Ox and Char...and safe travels!  (Enjoy our Inuvik Pix) Comment: From our Alaska perch, we have a high opinion of Harper/Prentice policies but wonder if the oil sands export policy cuts off Canada's nose to spite her face (See news below).  We believe there is serious doubt about the truth of current, global warming group-think and still more doubt that humankind much affects its direction anyway--since the oceans produce the greatest volume of greenhouse [...]

State Seeks $2Million Consultant to Help With Gas Pipeline Open Season Tax Conditions – Judge Could Lift Obama Moratorium

ADN by Sean Cockerham.  The Parnell administration is looking to hire a $2 million consultant to review proposals for changing state petroleum taxes to encourage a natural gas pipeline.  The bid document says the state anticipates oil companies that would produce the gas from the North Slope will seek changes to Alaska's oil and gas production tax. The consultants' work would include "evaluation of options for modifying the oil and gas tax structures to facilitate a major gas pipeline project."  Revenue Commissioner Pat Galvin (NGP Photo) said legislators, as well [...]

Senator Mark Begich Stands Up to Obama But Supports Coastal Village Super Voices

Comment:  In an Op-Ed column Sunday (ADN), Senator Mark Begich (NGP Photo) stood up to the  Administration in advocating a more robust domestic oil and gas leasing program but then supported enlargement of a regional advisory council process that increases bureaucratic delay and expense associated with Outer Continental Shelf exploration and development programs.  Village leaders claim an advisory council would give them a 'voice', ignoring the reality that all citizens already have a 'voice' in the due process that is bred into the genetics of all state law and rule-making and throughout [...]

Friends and Family Remembered Red Boucher Today At the Ft. Richardson National Cemetery – Mark Begich Continues Pushing Another Bureaucratic Impediment to Oil and Gas – Another Friend Passes: Margaret Webber

Today, friends and family gathered at the Ft. Richardson National Cemetery to honor H.A. "Red" Boucher who passed away earlier this year.  The ceremony was memorable for its Gun Salute, Folded Flag presentation to Vicky Boucher, Taps, Bagpipes, and a special poem tribute offered by Bob "Joker" Lupo (NGP Photo).  Many mutual friends met under the little outdoor chapel canopy, including Dave Donley, Mike Felix, Joe Griffith, Johnny Ellis and many more.  Red had always been intensely patriotic and public spirited, winning a handful of elective offices ranging from Fairbanks [...]

Feds Continue Attack On Alaska Resources and US Economic Recovery

ADN/AP by Dan Joling.  The federal plan for designating more than 187,000 square miles as polar bear critical habitat is too large and will lead to huge, unnecessary costs for Alaska's petroleum industry, opponents of the proposal told the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on Tuesday night. Former Mayor Rick Mystrom Connects Knik Bridge With Gasline Efficiency

ADN.  The Port of Anchorage, which is in the midst of its own huge expansion, is the primary Alaska port for consumer goods coming in on container ships. Almost everything residents eat, wear or drive comes through it. Mat-Su wants to become a regional port for mineral exports and also is interested in fuel storage and in receiving materials such as the steel for the state's long-dreamed about natural gas pipeline, former Mayor Rick Mystrom (NGP Photo) said.  But the Port of Anchorage wants the steel pipe to come its way, [...]
