Senate Democrats Win Dictatorial Powers for EPA – American Economy, Workers and Families Lose Again

On March 11, 2010, Governor Sean Parnell (NGP Photo-l) announced he had joined a bipartisan group of governors urging Congress to stop a plan that would give the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) authority to regulate greenhouse gases.   This week, Mayor Dan Sullivan (NGP Photo-r) urged his predecessor mayor, Senator Mark Begich, to support Murkowski's resolution and obtained an Assembly resolution to that effect.   Sen. Lisa Murkowski (NGP Photo): Public Deserved Vote on EPA Climate Regulations; Senator Mark Begich (NGP Photo) Voted With Democrat Majority Against Senator Murkowski   WASHINGTON, D.C. – [...]

IOGCC Supports Safe Development of ANWR – Senator Lesil McGuire Weighs In On ANWR

In revising the Comprehensive Conservation Plan and balancing competing visions for the future of the refuge, I ask that you give substantial weight to the energy needs of Alaskans and the United States in your review and planning process. First, I am encouraged at the recognition of the role of Congress in designating wilderness areas and determining the future of the 10-02 area in the planning documents provided. However I am concerned that focusing solely on issues related to oil and gas development in the planning process may undermine other [...]

Tim Bradner (NGP Photo), ADN.  A sense of gloom is spreading through the nation's energy industry from the Gulf of Mexico, and it's touching Alaska. Our confidence that advanced technology can handle any problem, even gushers gone wild at the bottom of the sea, is severely challenged.  ...  Shell's planned 2010 exploration for the Arctic offshore is an immediate casualty [...]

CALL TO ACTION: SUPPORT SENATOR MURKOWSKI’S FIGHT AGAINST EPA ABUSE

1.  Wall Street Journal, by Governor Sean Parnell (NGP Photo).  In Alaska we empathize with residents of the Gulf states who are watching with trepidation as the potentially catastrophic oil spill continues unchecked. This tragedy reminds us of the fallout, both financial and environmental, that we still feel here from the 1989 Exxon Valdez spill. State and federal studies still find lingering subsurface oil, for example, and the herring fishery has yet to fully rebound. But just as Alaskans did not abandon our belief in responsible petroleum exploration and development after [...]
