TOMORROW: FROM OUR FRIEND, CARL PORTMAN (NGP Photo), AT RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL FOR ALASKA

Carl Portman, Resource Development Council for Alaska, Oil Taxes, Alaska State Senate, Senate Bill 21There is one last opportunity in the Senate to testify on the urgent need
for oil production tax reform when the Senate Finance Committee takes public comment on Tuesday, March 12 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on the committee substitute for Senate Bill 21. Testimony will be taken at your local Legislative Information Office.

Although we had a good turn out before other committees, we need strong
support before Senate Finance. It is important to keep the momentum going in our favor, and this committee must hear from Alaskans on how vital it is to reform ACES this session. At a hearing last Wednesday, 27 supported meaningful oil production tax reform while 19 were opposed. Support outside Anchorage was weak. We can and must do better.

I know many of us are tired of the many hearings on this issue over the past several years and this session alone. But we must take it one committee and hearing at a time. It is our responsibility to show each committee that Alaskans support oil production tax reform. When legislators are overwhelmed by our opposition, it gives them pause.

Given this is likely to be the last hearing before the bill reaches the Senate floor, it is imperative we come out in strong numbers.
