Friends: Since last April, thousands of Alaskans have turned out for meetings, hearings, demonstrations, rallies, and written letters to the Minerals Management Service (MMS) before Monday’s deadline (September 21), urging that the government support more Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) oil and gas leasing in order to produce more domestic energy.  Below are a couple of many emails and calls we’ve had reflecting the flood of reaction from Alaskans who support a continuance of our way of life.  Good Alaskans and great Americans are these….      -dh

Hi Dave,

I put about 20 cards in the mail on Friday-

Best Regards,

Dear Dave,

Thanks for the excellently-crafted alert on public support for  MMS 2010-2015 Beaufort Sea OCS lease sale plan. I must confess that until I read the alert, this crucial program was completely off my radar. I’m afraid I’ve been taking retirement much too seriously. I’m grateful that you’re still in there swinging for us!

Sincerely,

Bill Hopkins

PS: Following is my letter to MMS:

Dear Ms. Orr:

This regards 2010-2015 Oil & Gas Leasing in the Outer Continental Shelf. As a 48-year Alaska resident I strongly support and ambitious and environmentally-responsible OCS  leasing program in all Alaska and U.S OCS areas that have potential for discovery and development of oil and natural gas to bolster and sustain Alaska’s and the nation’s economy and security.

I have closely followed the development of oil and gas in Alaska waters and onshore areas for many years, as a journalist, as a member of an Alaska governor’s staff, and as part of the state’s oil and gas industry. The benefits to Alaskan and American citizens,  workers and consumers have been tremendous. The future of the country and this state depend heavily on the continued search for and development of these vital natural resources.

Sincerely, yours,

William W. Hopkins

Douglas, AK
