ADN Polls Candidate OCS Opinion

The ADN asked candidates, "Are you satisfied with the level of federal environmental regulation and oversight of offshore oil and gas drilling and shipping to prevent a major spill in Alaska? If not, what do you want to see changed?  We think there should have been more outrage expressed by aspiring leaders that Federal bureaucrats are clearly doing everything possible to shut down Alaskan oil and gas activity -- both on- and off-shore.  See the economic impact of new OCS activity in Alaska in this study conducted by Northern Economics [...]

Who’s We?

Personal note: ...just returned to my gentle readers after a weekend in Walla Walla for a Whitman College "Parents Weekend"  -dh Fairbanks News Miner. Q&A by John Brown.  We can own and build a large diameter gas line to tide water that allows us to retain all options associated with our natural gas. We need to start on both projects tomorrow.  (It always amazes me how easily politicians can say "We" when they are referring to someone else's money.  See our earlier editorial.    -dh)

The Whole World Seeks Energy Self Sufficiency, Except Obama’s America – Enviros (CBD) Love Obama Moratorium

OneNewsNow.  “The Obama administration may have lifted the moratorium on deepwater drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, but it may not do enough to retain jobs and keep prices down. Shale Benefits Canada and U.S. – Governor Sean Parnell Targets Investment Climate

Journal of Commerce Q&A for Governor Sean Parnell (NGP Photo):  1. Oil and gas companies say the Alaska production tax rate is too high, and while they acknowledge exploration incentives and investment tax credits provide some help, they say it is not enough. Would you consider revising the over tax rate (i.e. The progressivity formula in the tax.)? If so, how would you do it? If not, why not? We need to create a more competitive investment climate to fill TAPS (the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System), get Alaska's gas to market, and to [...]

Alaska Dispatch, by Patti Epler.  Alaska Gov. Sean Parnell (NGP Photo-R-appearing with Attorney General Dan Sullivan-L) now says he supports a major revamp of the state's oil tax structure to make Alaska more competitive when it comes to oil industry investment.  The governor had been a staunch supporter of ACES -- Alaska's Clear and Equitable Share -- which was put in place in 2007 by then-Gov.
