1-5-14 Oil Tax Advocates To Begin “Baying At The Moon”

ADN Op-Ed, by Paul Jenkins.  With the new year, those desperate to return to a failed oil tax system that promotes a huge government rip-off will begin baying at the moon in earnest to get their way at the expense of Alaska's future.  Given their previous record, they will be more than willing -- even eager -- to fudge facts or spin their own. They like ever-bigger government and more spending, no matter the long-term economic wreckage.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The House Natural Resources Committee will hold an oversight hearing next Thursday, January 9th entitled, “Obama Administration’s War on Coal: The Recent Report by the Office of the Inspector General.”  This hearing will examine the new Inspector General Report on the Obama Administration’s unorthodox rulemaking process surrounding the rewrite of the 2008 Stream Buffer Zone Rule.    Today's American Energy Alliance Headlines & Comment: This is the real objective of the anti-Keystone crowd (besides raising money, of course). Today's American Energy Alliance Clips & Comment Prediction: This same article will be written exactly one year from now.   National Journal (12/30/13) reports: “Here's something to watch in 2014: the collective psyche of the green movement. If President Obama green-lights the Keystone pipeline, the movement will face questions about its tactics and goals at a level unseen since major climate-change legislation collapsed on Capitol Hill in 2010. ‘If the pipeline is approved, it's a defeat for 350.org, Sierra Club, et al, with no real strategy for what comes next,’ said Alex Trembath, [...]

"All I Want For Christmas!" Or, "The Loss of Self Reliance" On December 24, 2001 we wrote an editorial satirizing the human greed and mismanagement that was interfering with gas pipeline project advancement. In those days, Alaskan leaders and their supporters were engaged in the beginning of a decade-long fest of spending gluttony and tax increases to support self gratification of one generation at the expense of those to follow.   -dh 12-24-09 (Christmas Eve):  Gas pipeline news this week is light as all gas pipeline stakeholder thoughts turn to home.  [...]
