Calgary Herald by Stephen Ewart.  The surge in Chinese investment in Canada's oil and gas, pipelines, coal and mining sectors would attest to that trend. When Sinopec recently announced an offer to buy Calgary-based gas producer Daylight Energy there were rumours that at least three other Chinese companies were interested.   APRN by Dave Donaldson.  Great Bear Petroleum surprised the state’s oil industry a year ago when it leased – for shale exploration — approximately a half-million acres just south of the Prudhoe Bay and Kaparuk fields.  On Tuesday morning, President Ed Duncan [...]

ADN by Becky Bohrer.  Gov. Sean Parnell said Wednesday that he met for several hours with the chief executive of BP during the first leg of his European trip, touching on issues ranging from a natural gas pipeline to how Alaskans might benefit if oil taxes are cut.  Parnell said he told Bob Dudley he wants to get Alaska's gas to market as soon as possible. Last week Parnell told an oil and gas group that if the gas market has truly shifted from the Lower 48 to the Pacific [...]

ADN Editorial.  Gov. Sean Parnell (NGP Stock Photo) has for the last few years counseled patience on the gas line development headed by TransCanada. Apparently his patience is running out. The governor now says he'd like to see the major North Slope producers -- Exxon Mobil, BP Alaska and Conoco Phillips -- join in a project to pipe Alaska's gas to Valdez, where it would be liquefied and shipped in tankers to Asian customers. America's Unemployment Trend ... and, North Dakota ADN by Sean Cockerham.  Alaska politicians are interested in Gov. Sean Parnell's push to try to export the state's natural gas to Asia rather than the Lower 48, with influential lawmakers saying the state should consider paying to help to make it happen.

Where is the peace dividend that was supposed to come after the end of the Cold War? Where are the fruits of the amazing gains in efficiency that technology has afforded? It has been eaten by the bureaucracy that manages our every move on this earth. The voracious and insatiable monster here is called the Federal Code that calls on thousands of agencies to exercise the police power to prevent us from living free lives. It is as Bastiat said: the real cost of the state is the prosperity we [...]

CBS Money Watch.  Alaska Gov. Sean Parnell (NGP File Photo) proposed a new way forward on a natural gas pipeline Thursday, saying if demand for gas has shifted from the Lower 48 to Pacific Rim markets, the state must be willing to move with it.  Parnell, in a speech to an oil and gas industry group in Anchorage, said he wants the major North Slope players — Exxon Mobil Corp., BP and ConocoPhillips — to coalesce behind a project that would allow for liquefied natural gas to be shipped overseas. He wants [...]

Shell’s Permit to Environmental Appeals Board

ADN/AP by Dan Joling.  Earthjustice is asking the EPA Environmental Appeals Board to examine the air permit granted last month to one of Shell's two drill ships, Discoverer. It filed the appeal on behalf of 11 environmental or Alaska Native groups.  Earthjustice attorney Colin O'Brien said from Juneau that the Discoverer and a fleet of support vessels would emit tens of thousands of tons of carbon dioxide, more than 300 tons of nitrous oxide and tons of other pollutants. The drilling rig, he said, is not just a boat with [...]

ADN by Tim Bradner (NGP File Photo).  One project is the big 1,700-mile, 48-inch pipeline from the North Slope to Alberta, which is in an engineering phase. TransCanada Corp. and Exxon Mobil Corp. are involved, both large, competent companies that know what they're doing. However, with all the shale gas in the Lower 48, this project doesn't look very good for now. But who knows what things will look like in 20 to 30 years?  If this is built, a smaller "spur" pipeline could branch off at Delta to bring [...]
