7-19-2011 Notes From the Road, Los Angeles with Gregory Boyce, Aubrey McClendon and Paul Wenger

Commissioner Tony Clark, NARUC President NARUC PROGRAM We had the pleasure at noon today of introducing California Farm Bureau Federation President Paul Wenger and think our readers will find his presentation unusual and compelling:    Los Angeles, Ca. -- The NARUC program yesterday kicked off at the J.W. Marriott's Dimond Ballroom here with keynote presentations by Peabody Coal's Chairman and CEO Gregory Boyce (NGP Photo-L) and Chesapeake Energy's Aubrey McClendon (NGP Photo).  The two CEOs exposed the continuing tension between fossil fuel cousins: coal and natural gas. Remembering North Dakota

Yesterday, ADN's Becky Bohrer reported that lack of progress on AGIA pipeline is making lawmakers "Antsy". Remembering North Dakota by Dave Harbour While the main purpose for my trip to North Dakota was to attend the annual meeting of the Interstate Oil and Gas Association (IOGCC), I returned home with a nostalgic impression of how today's North Dakota represented yesterday's Alaska.  North Dakota is confident.  Alaska, as noted in the story link above, is 'antsy'. more coming....

TONIGHT’S THE NIGHT! – Notes From the Road, Day Eight In North Dakota: Oil and Gas Commissioners Hear From Four Governors

Come EAT, DRINK and TESTIFY at the Chukchi hearing today, June 29th at 5:30 p.m. at the Loussac Library. Fill out a comment card and enjoy a hot dog and drink before the hearing. The hearing itself will begin at 7 p.m.  If you can't attend the Anchorage event today, you can EASILY file an electronic comment here! We have been very respectful of the commitment by some elected officials to fight for Alaska's future by participating in these hearings.  This particular one could establish a record for federal decision making that will result [...]

Notes From the Road, Day Seven In North Dakota: Visiting the Antelope Valley Power Plant and Dakota Gasification Plant, A Powerful Combination!

...more 'Notes from the road' and photos coming.  Today we are attending meetings in Bismarck with the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission. Yesterday, we urged all readers, including elected officials, to become actively involved in tomorrow night's BOEMRE hearing that could well determine Alaska's future.  It is of such importance, I sense that any other legislative activity is virtually moot or meaningless next to the priority of attending a hearing whose record could result in a sustained, Alaskan economy.  Today, we are delighted to provide readers with the copy of [...]

Notes From the Road, Day Six In North Dakota – WEDNESDAY IS A BIG DAY – Has Alaska’s Real Estate Market Really Escaped The Denali Gas Pipeline Loss?

ADN Op-Ed by Chris Stephens (NGP Photo).  Our commercial real estate market is plagued by uncertainty for the second year. The causes of that uncertainty include the national recession, questions over the prospects for construction of a gas pipeline from the North Slope to the Lower 48, delays in Shell Oil's efforts to explore the Chukchi Sea, and pessimism about future oil company investment in the face of North Slope production declines.  The Legislature's inconclusive debate this past session about reducing oil taxes to stimulate production created additional uncertainty.  Recent news that the [...]

Notes From the Road, Day Two – Is Alaska Losing or Has It Lost Its Competitive Edge?

Notes From The Road, Day Two: Williston to Bismarck by Dave Harbour Comment:  In the stories below, one is left shaking one's head.  The Alaska State Senate has refused to support Governor Sean Parnell's call for tax reform leading to more oil and gas investment on state lands.  At the same time, Alaska's U.S. Senators are calling for the Administration to improve a sour federal land investment climate steming from restrictive regulatory policies.  The adult in the room wants to say, why don't the state and federal decision makers [...]

Notes From the Road, Day One – N.D. Reminds Me Of What America/Alaska Used To Be, Still Could Be — We Should Seek Balance

Dan Joling of the AP reports Alaska officials are Thrilled with Cook Inlet Lease Sale.  Could this be light at the end of a slow-development tunnel--or a sign that producers now believe the Regulatory Commission of Alaska will not unreasonably disapprove gas sales agreements to utilities as it did in 2006-7?  -dh Help Alaska Continue To Produce Energy For the Country While Invigorating the National Economy! Notes From the Road, Day 1: Bismarck to Williston by Dave Harbour Yesterday, I was visiting oil industry folks in Bismarck, and today am [...]
