Part IV: Can Alaska be a place where A DEAL IS A DEAL? Competition Perspectives: Part IV (Part I, Part II, Part III) Is Alaska Flirting With The Last Gas Pipe Straw? by  Dave Harbour We had written a very long commentary which tried to shed light on the effect of currently discussed issues on Alaska investment climate competitiveness.  We then delved into the effect various pending decisions could have on prospects for an economically feasible gas pipeline. And we concluded that, as in Canada's MGM case, investors would do the best [...]

Is Alaska Flirting With The Last Gas Pipe Straw? Competition Perspectives: Part IV (Part I, Part II, Part III) by  Dave Harbour (Read More) Our friend, John Hofmeister (NGP Photo), former Shell President, offered this "quotable quote" on the energy situation during his interview with the Oxford Club's Energy and Infrastructure Strategist Dave Fessler:   Please Consider Testifying Today, Friday, March 14 on HB 77: Improve Alaska's Permitting Efficiency (We at NGP believe this is one rather small but important way citizens can improve Alaska's investment climate--rather than our usual challenge to fight off additional investment climate attacks!  -dh) Our friends at the [...]

Alaska Public Media by Alexandra Gutierrez.  The latest version of a bill advancing a natural gas megaproject restores language concerning collective bargaining.  The Senate Finance Co-Chair Pete Kelly announced on Tuesday evening that the committee will scrap the less specific language they had planned to use when dealing with labor terms. Commentary: The following post by the Pebble Project precisely reflects the editorial position we have taken for several years.   We would add that the White House has no business lecturing Russia and other nations on the importance of [...]

See today's Globe & Mail piece on Asian LNG competition for price   Comment: Yesterday we noted that two legislators are planning for a new oil revenue stream should voters adopt an August Primary Ballot proposition to repeal oil tax reform.   That revenue stream will be based on a new policy emphasis on state investment and equity into oil and gas exploration and development projects.  These are the [...]

2-12-14 Alaska LNG Challenges

Alliance Profile: M-I SWACO a Schlumberger Company: From Drilling through Production, Focused on our Customers Alaska LNG Project Faces Market Challenges...And Political Challenges Competition Perspectives: Part I (Part II, Part III) by  Dave Harbour Alaska and Mackenzie Delta producers are eyeing LNG exports to Asia as this generation's best option for monetizing Arctic gas.   Previous generations were close: with the Arctic Gas project in the 1970s (i.e. including TransCanada); displaced by the Alcan project in the 1980s (i.e. vigorously opposed by TransCanada); and the Alaska Highway gas pipeline project given new life with [...]

1-28-14 Marcus K. Singletary, Dearly Departed – State of The Union Is Threatened From Within

As our faithful readers prepare for tonight's State of the Union Speech, we also await rationale justifying the continuing overreaching jurisdiction of the White House.  Please review our editorial written two years ago.  We briefed readers on a big change: this president was altering the authority to take over the economy.  Former administrations planned to exercise broad economic powers only in the face of a national emergency.  The current White House added a provision enabling it to take dictatorial powers in 'peacetime' as well.  Perhaps a reading of our Executive [...]
