National Journal: EPA Could Thwart Gas Supplies **Comment by David Holt** (NGP Photo)

It’s ironic that less than a decade ago, our country was so David Holt, Lake Hood, by Dave Harbour, CEA, Consumer Energy Allianceconcerned about dwindling natural gas supplies that we built new LNG import terminals to secure a supply from overseas. Fast forward to today when newly discovered shale formations around the country, and new technology, are giving us the chance to access an amazing domestic supply of natural gas, and are simultaneously presenting us with a unique opportunity to revitalize our domestic energy industry, and stimulate growth for decades to come.

Town Hall: A New Years Resolution to Help the American Consumer **Op-ed by David Holt** (NGP Photo)
As the New Year moves forward, Americans are pursuing resolutions that will help them improve their lives. However, the single most important action that can benefit the nation’s businesses, industry and consumers is the advancement of sensible policies that enable the full development of the United States robust energy resources. For this reason, the Obama Administration and state governments throughout the country should implement policies that will enable the economy to grow and allow the nation to continue as a global leader for the 21st Century.

Oil Price: Natural Gas Goes Down in Flames (Op-ed)
I received a scratchy and barely audible call from my buddy out in the Barnet natural gas fields just outside of Fort Worth, Texas the other day. With the price for CH4 decisively breaking through $3/MBTU yesterday, traders were now resigned to seeing a new ten year low in the near future, possibly as low as $2. The men on the rigs were getting restless, fearing layoffs in their future. Did I have any insights?

Groups like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Business Roundtable say they speak for the country’s business interests. When it comes to the Keystone XL pipeline, they most definitely do not. In his "State of American Business speech," U.S. Chamber president Tom Donohue once again trotted out his fantasy claims about the importance to our economy of this foreign pipeline scheme.

A spokesman for TransCanada, the company planning the Keystone XL pipeline, said plans are moving forward despite political wrangling in Washington. U.S. Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., said, during the weekend address for the Republican Party, that there were few projects that were more in the interest of the United States than Keystone XL.

After three years of deeply depressed natural gas prices (NG-FT2.56-0.11-4.01%) and facing another to come, Canada’s biggest natural gas producer is losing its stomach for the commodity. Eric Marsh, executive vice-president at Encana Corp., (ECA-T17.38-0.51-2.85%) told an investor conference in New York last week that the Calgary-based gas giant plans to steer its multibillion-dollar capital spending program for 2012 toward oil and natural-gas-liquids drilling, and away from the “dry” gas deposits that are usually the staple of the sector.

The oil industry jumped head-first into the presidential campaign on Monday, calling on South Carolina voters to make drilling a top election issue and ramping up pressure on President Obama to approve the Keystone XL pipeline. Jack Gerard — the president of the American Petroleum Institute — said the powerful oil industry trade group will be traveling around the country in the coming months as part of its “Vote 4 Energy” campaign, which includes radio, television and print advertising in swing states including Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Gerard is slated to speak in New York on Jan. 27.
