Chairman Bishop Opines On DOI Appointment

House Committee on Natural Resources Chairman Rob Bishop issued the following statement in reaction to the appointment of Representative Ryan Zinke (R-MT) to head the Department of the Interior.

“Selfishly, I’m not crazy about this nomination, because Zinke was a bright freshman member of our committee. This will be a loss for us. I was looking forward to working with him on Resources and in the Western Caucus. However, this appointment gives us greater opportunity to help people and solve problems that face the West.

“In our committee, he dealt with many issues including transmission rights-of-way to move power from its production source to where the people are. He experienced firsthand the frustrations associated with an administration that didn’t put its priorities on helping people and effective land management.

“He also understands our frustrations with Interior’s arbitrary rules and regulations that put dogma ahead of helping people. He clearly understands Speaker Ryan’s Article I initiative. I am excited to have an administration that will now partner with Congress to solve problems created by years of mismanagement at Interior. I look forward to working with Zinke to create new solutions.”

Senator Joe Manchin just met with President-elect Trump and in an early morning network interview reaffirmed his commitment to the proper use of fossil fuels. Manchin supports Governor Perry’s nomination as Secretary of Energy. We have followed Manchin’s career for many years and believe he can be a rallying point for Senate democrats who are inclined to support Trump’s energy and other policies designed to create jobs, revive the economy, enhance national security and bring the United States to the state of energy independence. -dh

He is a past President of the Alaska Press Club, American Bald Eagle Foundation, Consumer Energy Alliance-Alaska and Common Sense for Alaska. Harbour was instrumental in founding the American Bald Eagle Research Institute (UAS), the Alaska Support Industry Alliance, the Downtown Anchorage Business Partnership, and Arctic Power. He also served as CEO of several small Alaska organizations, including the Anchorage Parking Authority and Action Security, Inc. Harbour is also Chairman Emeritus of the Alaska Oil & Gas Congress. Harbour's wife, Nancy, is a professional, performing arts administrator and his three boys, Todd, Benjamin and William work in the fields of environmental management, energy marketing and medicine.
