Global ‘Warming’ Cons From Alaska Feds?

(You probably read it here first; the next day the AP reported it locally.  We are often first to report breaking energy news of interest to our readers--in these pages and via more immediate email alerts for the more relevant items.  More than half the time, the tip comes from an observent reader.  We lament just beginning the category "You Read It Here First", today, since these pages are filled with at least scores of such breaking news reports to our readers.  But, better late than not at all.   [...]

Homer Electric Buys Hydro Power

Peninsula Clarion by Molly Dischner.  Homer Electric Association announced last week that it will buy the Bernice Lake Power Plant in Nikiski from Chugach Electric Association for $11.8 million.  The purchase is conditional on the Regulatory Commission of Alaska agreeing to amortize the purchase price over several years, HEA’s Joe Gallagher said in a statement. That means that the cost of the plant would get spread out over several years, so that current members aren’t stuck with the full cost immediately.

Legal Photo Use

7-24-11. Today we decided to begin noting a sampling of the many instances wherein others use our photos as our attribution policy requires.  While we have noted literally hundreds of such instances in the past, we did not think until recently to compliment them through this posting for using our images appropriately.  The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step and today we take that step.  -dh Below we shall provide examples in order, beginning with the most recent, when we think to do so: 7-28-11.  Clare [...]

The CBC report suggests Korea may purchase Shell's Mackenzie Delta assets! Enjoy the art of our Tundra Comics friend, Chad Carpenter! Ziff Energy's Bill Gwozd responded to our editorial material yesterday:  Ziff Energy still has Alaska and Mackenzie Delta flowing in our models – both are required.  The key point you may wish to share with your readers is these projects have a 25 year life starting 2020/25 and ending 2050 ish.  So the questions the readers may wish to ask the politicians is what gas supply will be flowing in North America [...]

Notes From the Road: The Alaska-Canadian North Is A Tough Place To Do Business…

Geek note:  We lament your opinion of us when--as in this morning's alert email (subscribe above right)--the automatic editing program substitutes an "it's" when we actually typed "its".  This is not to say we don't make mistakes, but we prefer to take blame for our own mistakes and not for our robot's.  Actually, we shouldn't blame our robot either, since it's our responsibility to proof read, not its.  -dh Larry Persily's NARUC Impressions When we encountered the Alaska Gas Pipeline Federal Coordinator, Larry Persily (NGP stock photo), in Los Angeles [...]

Energy Issues Keep Erupting Here

Comment.  Governor Sean Parnell is understandably concerned about Barak Obama's new executive order directed at Alaska.  The action purports to improve coordination among Federal agencies responsible for permitting energy projects by establishing an, "Interagency Working Group on Coordination of Domestic Energy Development and Permitting in Alaska (Working Group)."  If Obama had any management background, he would know that this effort just creates more opportunity for talk and confusion and delay.  Just one more meeting of over a dozen high level officials and a thousand more telephone calls and emails to [...]
