At 3 p.m. EST today we witnessed U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley’s speech regarding the dangerous conditions evolving from North Korea’s latest threatening missile test.  She offered the U.N. members a choice: act together to impose serious sanctions or expect the U.S. to act to defend itself.   Here for reference is a “Korea” speech we offered the Alaska World Affairs Council last October and a Washington Times Op-ed on Korea we provided last November.  -dh

The Day After America’s Fourth Of July, We Pray The Energy Evolution Continues In Freedom For A Nation, “…Under God, Indivisible…”!

The day after America’s Independence holiday, we dare not forget the critical role energy has played in our national progress.  Abundant domestic energy since the mid-19th Century has increasingly prospered our great republic and enabled her to protect herself also defend her allies.

But as we move into the next anniversary year of independence let us appreciate the importance of free enterprise that has enabled the development of domestic energy.

Should we occasionally need a reminder, one may more fully value America’s freedom and the democracy it has cultivated by seeing how dictatorial nations have used energy to maintain power over citizens.  We have seen how totalitarianism has consistently misused energy resources causing poverty, massive abuse and sadness among citizens from the Soviet Union to Venezuela to Libya and Iran.

We have seen how countries without energy abundance have fared under socialist and dictatorial rule, from Cuba, North Korea and Papa Doc’s Haiti.

We’ve also observed that freedom without massive domestic energy resources — as with South Korea and Japan — can also unleash human accomplishment with reliance on external free markets for both customers and for energy.

So we in America count our blessings for living in a free country, appreciating that God-inspired freedom + God-provided energy resources have created the foundation for our exceptional good fortune.

Finally, we pray that similarly situated friends like Australia, Canada and Mexico join us in cherishing the role freedom plays in both enabling the production of domestic energy wealth and protecting our way of life.  -dh
