Esmeraldas

We frequently address the Venezuelan tragedy because of its similarities to socialist trends in North America and the effect socialism has on energy investment/employment, wealth production, wealth control, wealth distribution, general prosperity and widespread tragedy. -dh

A half decade ago, I wrote about an experience with refugees in Northwestern Ecuador.  Here is that Facebook entry:

FACEBOOK, Esmeraldas area.  January, 2013.  Images from minority barrios in extreme, Northern Ecuador, for use in documenting plight of some 200,000 refugees.  Most subjects are Afro-Columbian refugees and some are Afro-Ecuadorian citizens. Clients of the United Nations World Food Program mostly receive sustenance from the WFP, supported by Ecuador, the United States and other countries. The WFP is a client of Dave Harbour World Photography.  Other Photos here: http://tinyurl.com/ahs9vzm

Yesterday (8-25-18), due to the current Venezuela refugee crisis, I contributed this updated observation:

Now, 5.5 years later (8-25-18), Venezuelan refugees fleeing a communist breakdown in their formally prosperous, free and wealthy nation, are rushing to Colombia and from there to Ecuador and Peru, and other Latin countries.

Middle Eastern, European, Asian, Latin and African nations have learned the hard way that Nazis, authoritarian theocrats and communist versions of socialism result in the death of not only a country’s prosperity: they adversely and tragically affect surrounding nations and even the world.

To North American’s millennials, we urge studious avoidance of movements and any political party that endorses socialist control of the state and loss of hard-won freedoms.

Remember how much we and our ancestors paid for the freedom we now enjoy.  Remember freedom is not free.  Remember that to preserve freedom, EVERY generation has had to pay a dear price in blood and treasure to preserve it for the next crop of citizens.  Remember that this process now leads to you: are you ready to protect freedom with your life, your fortune and your sacred honor?  If you don’t know what that means, remember these founders.

Senator John McCain died today, and before him WWII heroes like President Ronald Reagan, Senator Ted Stevens, Senator Dan Inouye, Governor Jay Hammond and my dad, Col. Dave Harbour and millions of our other mothers, fathers and more ancient forebears.

Please remember and, for your own sake, act courageously.

Godspeed.

Today is Sunday.  We are, therefore, more focused than usual on the role of our Creator in our lives.  Accordingly, we offer this one last note to millenial citizens.

Your parents and teachers may not have taught you about the price of freedom.  But as you now take over our civilization, we trust your critical thinking, common sense and self interest will lead you to learn from history what you must know to survive and pass on to your children a legacy of freedom.

Our founding, freedom and way of life had origins in the Christian principles employed by our founders as they developed their new Nation.  It is both logical and practical to acknowledge that America’s continuing existence depends upon defending the principles upon which it was founded.  Defending those principles requires us to be obedient to God and the Son he sent to save us from our own deficiencies that we may someday enter eternal Heaven.  We do not deny others the freedom to worship in other ways, and will defend them as we defend ourselves, but our American heritage is rooted in fealty to the one true God and Creator.

By living our lives for Our Father, we attract his Holy Spirit’s guidance in decision making affecting our lives and that of our Nation.  By rejecting Him, we reject the founders’ Declaration of Independence and Constitution and subject ourselves to the calamities and chaos that has led other great but lesser civilizations into genocide and destruction.  So, Dear Ones, saving America is as much about being devoted to our Maker as we are committed to competing in the worldly world that surrounds us, seduces us and seeks to consume us.  -dh
