Wight Calls For Creative Thinking Re: LNG Plant – Macksey Calls For Helping Shell

Comment.  Earlier this month, your author addressed the Kenai Chamber of Commerce.  Later that day, ConocoPhillips and Marathon announced discontinuation of the Kenai LNG facility and we broke the news here about the Nigerian purchase of Agrium's facilities.  We noted the giant equipment required for the project and later reported that Robert Roest of Mammoet USA (providing much of the massive moving equipment) could make that equipment available for other large jobs this summer.  One of our readers is a 41-year industry veteran and former Alyeska Pipeline president, David Wight (NGP [...]

Are Alaska Gas Projects Imploding? – Canadian Gas Pipes Exploding

Alaska Dispatch by Patti Epler.  ... That immediately set folks to asking: What's Plan B? The state has been trying for more than 30 years to market the abundant natural gas on the North Slope. If this gas line plan falls through, what next?   …    Now, proponents of other gas projects are smelling blood in the political waters and they're circling Juneau armed with power points and proposals. Legislators' angst over the TransCanada project, the closing of the Nikiski gas export plant and the notion of importing gas to a state [...]

Ken Salazar’s Interior Department Wastes Money

Comment:  Our Interior Secretary, like his Chief Executive, looks at serious issues through the eyes of an incompetent manager.  That's assuming absence of mal intent.  Mal management or incompetent management has produced arbitrary and capricious use of the Endangered Species Act, misuse of the Clean Air Act, rogue rulemaking, passive-aggressive permitting designed to delay or halt economic activity on federal lands.  See Ed Wynn's video interview below.  Our editorials over the last two years have documented this abuse of power in detail. One of our respected attorney readers (reformed father [...]

Ed Wynn Describes America’s Destruction By Foolish Politicians

We would only add that if Wynn knew what the Congress and Obama Administration were doing to deprive America of energy jobs, resources, balance of payments surplus, dollar strength, tax and royalty income and economic recovery he would have been even more distraught and outraged.  More reason, dear readers, to testify next Friday!

Murkowski Talks Oil Taxes and Gas Pipelines

We Return to Anchorage Today After NARUC Meetings -dh Alaska Dispatch by Patti Epler.  Former Gov. Frank Murkowski (NGP Photo) has been making the rounds of business groups and writing commentaries about the state's need to revamp its oil tax structure to make Alaska more competitive. But the former governor and U.S. senator has thoughts on other state issues, too, including the proposed natural gas pipeline from the North Slope to Canada and his political rival former Gov. Sarah Palin's plan to get it built. In a far-ranging interview with Alaska Dispatch, [...]

You heard about the LNG plant; what about the Agrium Plant? – Our Speech in Kenai Yesterday – Homer Gasline – Subsidy of Instate Gas?

As the LNG Plant Closes, a Nigerian investor plans to move the Kenai Agrium plant (lock, stock and barrel) to Africa! Comment:  Until now, hope has sprung eternal that someday the Agrium plant would pop back to life with a new supply of adequately priced natural gas feedstock...or that the facility could be converted to other value added benefit for the Kenai Peninsula and the Alaska economy.  But this report describes a unique project to uproot, transport and replant the Kenai fertilizer facility in Nigeria.  Operations will begin this spring and summer with the project scheduled for completion by the end of October. [...]

2-9-2011 Harbour Speech Today: “How Do I Fear Thee; Let Me Count the Ways” – More Gasline Guessing – Eni Begins ANS Production – Doc Hastings Gets it Right

Today your author will address the Kenai Chamber of Commerce The Daily Caller, by Congressman Doc Hastings (NGP Photo).  The volatility in the Middle East is a stark reminder that our economy and national security are linked to unstable regions of the world and will continue to be as long as the United States remains dependent on foreign energy. America can no longer afford to overlook the national security implications that come from not developing our energy resources here at home. Adopting a true all-of-the-above energy approach will lead us to [...]

Daily Planet Editorial Nails It: Alaskans Should Be Furious!

Anchorage Daily Planet.  Alaskans should be furious that Shell again is being forced to postpone its Arctic drilling program, until at least 2012, because of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency delays in issuing air pollution permits. The permits - for diesel engines aboard exploration vessels - were issued nearly a year ago, but the Alaska Eskimo Whaling Commission and environmental organizations appealed. The EPA’s Environmental Appeals Board in Washington, D.C., ordered more work on the permits. The Anchorage Daily News reported: “One of the issues: The Seattle office said the permit [...]

Tom Brennan Urges Legislature To Heed Declining Throughput Reality – Canadians Follow Alaska Gasline Drama

Anchorage Daily Planet by Tom Brennen (NGP Photo) Throughput in the trans-Alaska pipeline has been going down ever since that fateful day when I unwittingly announced that the North Slope oilfields had peaked out.  I’m hoping the Legislature will soon reduce oil taxes and get the industry exploring again to flatten the production curve and keep the oil flowing. Otherwise I’m afraid somebody will blame it on me.* * * Shell Oil’s announcement that it won’t be drilling in the Beaufort Sea this year was no surprise — they just ran out [...]

We Ask: How Could Any Gasline Possibly Be Built Without “Help” From Politicians?

We lament the current travail borne by our friends in Egypt and Jordan, and pray for them.  (NGP Photo: Nubian, Arabic teacher, upper Nile -- and our guide and Facebook friend weeping for joy at a special moment.   January 2010)  -dh Journal of Commerce by Tim Bradner (NGP Photo).  Alaska legislators say they're frustrated with lack of progress by TransCanada Corp. in securing shipping contracts for a planned $40 billion-plus Alaska natural gas pipeline, and some are arguing for terminating the state's contract with the pipeline company, under which [...]
