8-3-16 We Find The Alaska Governor’s Position Wanting

By |2016-12-22T22:26:59-09:00August 3rd, 2016|Alaska's Fiscal Crisis, Commentary, LNG, Notes From the Road|

Dear Reader: Alaska Governor Bill Walker. NGP File Photo by Dave Harbour Today we add our note to the story below: We find the state's position wanting.  If Alaska governor Bill Walker's predecessor governors wished to demand competitive producer information, they would have put that demand in the original Prudhoe Bay Lease Sale -- and future lease sale -- requirements.   Adding requirements -- especially those that violate federal laws -- after a lease sale, after investors pay their bonus bids, after exploration and development and construction of [...]

Canadians Continue to Absorb Assaults On Economy.  -dh CBC. Postcards usually tell stories or show a vacation spot, but at a farmers market on Saturday they warned against a pipeline planned near Winnipeg's water supply. About eight volunteers with the Manitoba Energy Justice Coalition handed out postcards against pipelines at the St. Norbert Farmer's Market with a message to the mayor. "I urge you to protect Winnipeg's drinking water and the Shoal Lake Watershed by rejecting TransCanada's Energy East pipeline," the postcard read.

The People's Paper OP-Ed by Representative Shelly Hughes (Read full commentary here) Oil prices low? Fiscal challenge? Some see the glass half empty; I see it half full. Now is the time for Alaska’s transition to productivity. Now is the time to realize our potential. We can do this, Alaska! Let’s first consider where we are and how we got here. A few decades ago, that engineering marvel, the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, began pumping us to where we are today. We can all be thankful for that. The companies that toiled [...]

Alaska's Governor Bill Walker takes no responsibility for a declining credit rating as he continues to joust at the windmills of socialist acquisition of Alaska's resource wealth deterring industry investment in a low oil price environment.  Brilliant.  -dh Governor Walker’s Statement on Moody’s Downgrade of Alaska’s Rating “Today’s news from Moody’s Investors Services is concerning but, unfortunately, not surprising. Moody’s says, ‘The downgrade recognizes the state’s political inability – at least for now – to address its severe fiscal challenge.’ The agency’s analysts cite our strengths—our available cash reserves and [...]

One of our public service sponsors continues to be especially active in defending the frontier of freedom against federal overreach.  Many of Pacific Legal Foundation's precedents apply to the energy industries indirectly while only appearing to directly affect the freedom and rights of a single landowner.  Accordingly, we urge our readers to support PLF along with its faithful -- and highly successful -- efforts to preserve constitutional protections for both corporate and individual citizens.  -dh Homeowners' lawsuit:  County's beach-sign ban flouts First Amendment The owners of a beachfront home sued Walton County [...]

7-22-16 Japan’s LNG Buyers Should Be Cautioning Alaska and Canada About Pending, Expensive, Risky LNG Projects

Our Commentary: Today our Aussie O&G energy analyst friend focuses his astute observation on how LNG prices are being reviewed -- to the benefit in a buyers market -- of buyers.  This observation would tend to support Alaska producers' and Shell's (BC) more cautious approach to North American LNG projects targeting major Asian markets.   Of course, Alaska's socialist leaning governor is not deterred, continuing to move toward more state control of Alaska's energy industry, and the multi-billion dollar risks to his citizens which accompanies such Venezuela-like behavior.  -dh Aussie Oil & [...]
