Calgary Herald, by Terry Pedwell, CP.  The federal government is firming up its support of two projects that would see oil from Alberta piped to Atlantic Canada.  Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver says he has given tentative approval of one proposal to industry giant Irving Oil.  “I met with Arthur Irving (Irving Oil’s CEO) and expressed the support of the government of Canada, in principle, for this initiative,” Oliver said in an interview with The Canadian Press.

(Preparing for NARUC Meeting, Washington, D.C.) American Energy Alliance Morning Energy News - February 1, 2013 We needed to let this ripen for a day.  Its awesomeness originally overwhelmed us. Forbes (1/30/13) reports: “The EPA's Lisa Jackson: The Worst Head of the Worst Regulatory Agency, Ever… President Obama and his minions seem to think that freedom is a four-letter word.  His administration has imposed an array of intrusive, nanny-state, financial, environmental and consumer-product regulations that will cost Americans hundreds of billions of dollars.”   The good news is that this keeps her [...]

1-30-13 Helping our readers access the ‘whole story’ as they consider decisions….

Calgary Herald by Don Braid.  When Energy Minister Ken Hughes talks about the oilsands Thursday in Vancouver, he’ll have a message for our coastal cousins: “Not all roads lead through British Columbia.”  Translation: If B.C. won’t transport bitumen, Alberta will find somebody who’s glad to do it.  *****  Hughes says he’s interested in a plan to ship oil across Yukon to the Alaskan port at Valdez. He may have an announcement on that matter on Thursday.  “The pipeline there is only 50 per cent full and declining in volume,” he [...]

Hydroworld.  A multi-faceted piece of legislation introduced by Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, could see a new 50 kW micro hydro power plant fast-tracked for construction in Alaska's Denali National Park.  The legislation, called the Denali Park Improvement Act, would allow the National Park Service to issue a special-use permit to speed construction of the project. It would also provide authority for the park service to exchange 10 acres of land with Doyon Tourism for construction of the project.  The plan would allow Doyon -- a Fairbanks-based native corporation -- to [...]

January 28, 2013, SEE THE LINK HERE Dear Alaskans, This week in Juneau, Alaskans can speak up about the economic consequences of declining oil production. Alaskans from all corners of the state have the chance to testify before the Senate TAPS Throughput Committee. Here’s what we know: Alaskans’ oil drives the economic engine of our state. Oil exploration and development fuels our private sector economy. And, oil revenue provides nearly 90 percent of Alaska’s unrestricted government funds. That money helps fund our schools, energy and infrastructure projects, ferries, and health clinics. [...]

1-26-13 Does It Pass The Smell/Smile Test?

"Does It Pass The Smell/Smile Test"? Commentary by Dave Harbour Last week the Alaska House of Representatives minority released a study on the fiscal effects of oil tax reform.  The Fairbanks News Miner reported that passing Governor Sean Parnell's (NGP Photo) proposed reform, intended to increase investment and oil production in the state, would show, "an alarming loss in revenue."   Evidence from many sources makes clear to anyone with eyes to see and ears to hear that absent reform, Alaskan oil investment will continue to diminish.  The resulting lower throughput [...]

Q.  Are gas-short Anchorage utilities considering import of CNG from British Columbia until new long time supplies can be secured? A.  Looks like one of several feasible alternatives. CBC News.  Trucks from Irving Oil and Heritage Gas will start delivering compressed natural gas to factories and universities throughout the Maritimes without close access to pipeline infrastructure later this year.  The nearest pipeline to Acadia University is more than 100 kilometres away. So for now, its boiler room runs on bunker C oil at a cost of more than $2 million [...]

David Wright Tremaine, LLP by Michael Jungreis.  Lawmakers must weigh the costs of this project, in a time of declining state revenues, against the possible alternative sources of energy to prevent their constituents from freezing in the dark.  More information about the in-state pipeline can be found at the website of the Alaska Gasline Development Corporation.
