Calgary Herald, by Mike Ridewood, Canadian Press.  So much for all the hand-wringing over the fate of TransCanada Corp.’s mega-projects. Investors are looking beyond Keystone XL and Energy East. 5-29-16 Alaska Fiscal Crisis Continues – Oil Is Center Stage, As Usual

ADN, by Nathaniel Herz.   The latest showdown in the Legislature's interminable oil tax fight has loomed large in the extended session, with Senate Republicans and a bipartisan group of House members at odds over limiting Big Oil tax credits. The House coalition says rising oil prices won't fully restore the ravaged Alaska treasury as long as those credits are in place. Senate Republicans, backed by the state's four major oil producers, say credits are necessary to promote Alaska's economy. If oil prices follow the forecast of the administration of Gov. [...]

5-24-16 Still No Oil Price Crystal Balls … But We Can Still Study Trends

Below, our Mid Atlantic energy analyst friend makes two points that seem contradictory.  First, he demonstrates through history what we have always known about recovery of shale oil and gas: that the productive lives of shale plays tend to be much shorter those of conventional oil and gas reservoirs.  Second, he emphasizes the incredible productivity impact rapidly developing technology has on shale projects. The first point suggests that the shale era could come and go quickly; the second point promises that technology will sustain shale longer than previously thought. Alaska and [...]

5-23-16 By Increments We Can Lose A Nation’s Liberty

Energy Is The Very Foundation Of North American Freedom Eco-socialist Strategists Know That The Means, Transportation and Distribution of Energy Production Can Come Under Their Control Via Government Expropriation And/Or Regulatory Power by Dave Harbour Today we ask our readers to recognize the dots that connect socialism and eco-activism to the undoing of free energy markets and freedom itself. Our readers can surely agree that: Freedom can be eliminated by eliminating free enterprise. [...]

5-21-16 Alaska Gas Project: When Does One More Straw Break The Camel’s Back?

Tim Bradner, NGP Photo by Dave Harbour 5-13-11 Tim Bradner of the AJOC brings us another Alaska gas monetization reality: wetlands mitigation (Story below).  Higher but unknown additional mitigation/litigation costs cannot improve feasibility of AGDC's (https://www.agdc.us/) government investment in the Alaska LNG project (http://ak-lng.com/).  Nor can such open-ended future expenses make the state's socialist equity investment in Alaska LNG more beneficial to citizens. This is precisely the type of uncertainty that leads project proponents to add additional contingency requirements to Financing Plans: uncertainty requires hedging as greater assurance of "project completion" to satisfy [...]
