6-20-18 The Show (Archive) Must Go On!

We've been laying low for several weeks due to shoulder replacement surgery and related issues...for which we thank readers' patience.  We're slowly repairing,  able to type a little and now focused on adding appropriate northern energy content into our searchable archives as before.  -dh BIG NEWS TODAY: Trump repeals Obama's destructive, duplicative Ocean Policy E.O.  See this letter from the National Ocean Policy Coalition below, column right.  -dh Today's Latest Northern Energy News: Oil, Gas & LNG Readers: Download the "six behaviors" below for important [...]

5-9-18 Hendrix Moves To Alaska’s Private Sector, In Part

John Hendrix (photo) was hired to advise Gov. Bill Walker on oil and gas matters and give the governor some cover in an area where he badly needs credibility. That was nearly two years ago. Now, Hendrix is heading for the exit. Some had been courting him to run for governor himself, but instead, he's found a landing at NANA. See Must Read Alaska story here. P.S.  Here's a clip from Governor Walker's press release.  We'll be interested to see how this works out.   ("Mr. Hendrix will continue working with the [...]

4-11-18

Canada's Pipeline Obstacles Ref: Our 4-7-18 Post Braid: Coming soon, the NDP bill to choke off fuel to BC.  Calgary Herald.  Called the Preserving Canada's Economic Prosperity Act, it will enable cuts ofAlberta fuel shipments to B.C.'s Lower Mainland. This will likely apply to oil, natural gas and refined products, including gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel. And the restrictions probably won't just apply to pipeline shipments. Insuring a pipeline: Kinder Morgan faces risks that only government can address.  CBC.ca.  The resulting Pipeline Debate was one of the most intense political events in Canadian history. The Conservatives under John Diefenbaker were strongly opposed, [...]

3-20-18 LAST CHANCE BEFORE VOTING: A Logical Review Of Anchorage’s Utility Ballot Initiative, and An Alaska LNG Scheme Update

Our Analysis Of Proposition 10 From Last Week Proposition 10 allows the MOA to sell its Municipal Light & Electric (ML&P) utility to Chugach Electric Coop (CEA). Ray Kreig on Mike Porcaro's 3-23-18 KENI Radio Show re: author's view of ML&P sale. https://clyp.it/fhbf5swd We support an HONEST and TRANSPARENT sale of ML&P but we oppose the corrupted process leading to Proposition 10.  We will vote “No” until the MOA employs a transparent, valid, robust, national competitive bidding process (i.e. RFP or RFB) and until a super majority [...]

3-7-18 Alaska has a deficit budget and fiscal crisis but pours money into socialized, uneconomic energy projects!

Government subsidized Fairbanks natural gas scheme plods on... ...with insufficient customer base, insufficient long term gas supply, high cost barriers to fuel oil/gas conversion. This is one of two large,  socialized, Alaska energy projects that politicians continue to subsidize in the midst of a fiscal crisis highlighted by deficit budgets.  Neither the AGDC nor the IEP natural gas projects would now be burning cash if they were controlled by prudent, free market investors.  See references, below.  -dh LNG tank construction a sign of progress for Interior gas project (IEP),  Alaskajournal.com,   Backhoes are back [...]

1-23-18 Just remember….

Just remember... Private companies when filing with FERC and other agencies -- for energy projects or just for portions of a project regulated by a particular agency -- really have to have their acts together. Among that preparation is a reasonable degree of knowledge and proof -- acceptable to the board of directors as well as convincing to the agency -- that the project is real.  The application must be solid: environmental research/safeguards (i.e. air, water, earth and flora and fauna, including birds, mammals, fish), geological, cultural, archaeological, logistic, [...]

1-22-18 Alaska’s Pipe Policy Pursues Perfidy

Saturday We Said, "Canada's Pipe Policy Pursues Perplexity" (Today, it's Alaska's Turn) We say Alaska pursues perfidy because it does.  Everyone in the state with at least one good eye on this government-owned bureaucrat-controlled enterprise (i.e. the Alaska Gasline Development Corporation, or AGDC) knows it is is not what it claims to be. Heaven knows what Governor Walker told President Trump about his pipedream last year when his role as governor gained him entrance to America's seat of power to talk about a $1 trillion US "Infrastructure" investment project.  [...]

1-19-18 Alaska and Alberta: Resist Socialism!

Nicolas Maduro, Venezuela's socialist (i.e. communist) dictator. Comment: We continually urge Alaska and Alberta to control spending and taxation.  The two oil supported governments should resist the move toward socialism which unsuccessfully manages economies, kills economic growth, produces run-away unemployment and inflation and results in dictatorship and loss of freedom.  Following is an example of an oil-fired economy ruined by socialist dictatorship.  -dh Looting of food stores spreads in Venezuela as inflation tops 2600%.  Things are going from bad to worse in Venezuela as growing food shortages are [...]

8-21-17 Alaska LNG Project Subsists On Subsidies

Alaska's Government Gas Pipeline/LNG Project Still Treads Water We fear government owned/subsidized projects -- even wasteful or uneconomic ones -- produce support industry crony capitalists who become dependent on the client and supportive of socialist government benefactors and candidates for public office.  A misplaced fear?  You be the judge. by Dave Harbour In spite of low prices and unprecedented competition in the gas/LNG industry, Alaska's government subsidized North Slope gas monetization project continues to tread water, shall we say, "gasping for air". Alaska Governor Bill Walker. Northern Gas Pipelines [...]

6-1-17 Commentary: Yesterday Was A Historical Milepost In Alaska’s History!

Here's Why Yesterday Was A Historical Milepost For Alaska by Dave Harbour Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke with U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski and Governor Bill Walker. Northern Gas Pipelines file photo by Dave Harbour. Anchorage press conference, 5-31-17. 3-21-17 Economist Roger Marks Fact Checks Lawyer’s “Fair Share” Cliché (UPDATE)

Calgary Herald by Javier Blax.   Exxon Mobil Corp., Royal Dutch Shell Plc and Chevron Corp., are jumping into American shale with gusto, planning to spend a combined $10 billion this year, up from next to nothing only a few years ago.  (Many Alaskan and Alberta elected officials -- obviously -- have no concept of the principle of worldwide competition for attracting natural resource investment dollars.  -dh) Critical Thinking The end of the Alaska Legislature's 2017, third trimester approaches.  The socialist-leaning House majority has cut off debate on their [...]

2-14-17 Happy Valentine’s Day!

More Gas Pipe/LNG Entrigue We noted that YESTERDAY the Alaska governor sought to increase the statutory reach of the Department of Law's Attorney General, so that he (i.e. and various attorney friends of the Administration as well, we presume), could participate in tribunals presided over by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Here is the bill he submitted to the Legislature. Please review our Sunday night observation and consider that in testimony today before the Senate Finance Committee the President of the Alaska Gasline Development Corporation (AGDC) said that he was aware [...]
