Former Mayor George Ahmaogak Could Save Alaska’s Economy

Commentary:  When former Alaska North Slope Borough Mayor George Ahmaogak (NGP Photo) took the podium in the Petroleum Club last night, you could hear a pin drop as he began speaking followed by a thunderous applause when he finished.  He said he is completely consistent and candid with his constituents.  When elected he will -- as in the past -- have an open door policy for citizens and those doing business in the borough.  He believes the future of the oil industry is generally aligned with the future of North Slope Borough [...]

8-29-11 Feds At Work Against Alaska Economy Again

Check out today's ADN, polar bear story by AP reporter, Dan Joling.  (Polar Bear Paw, NGP Photo) Polar Bear Comment By Dave Harbour With the Polar Bear population not decreasing, the Feds have established nearly 187,000 square miles as "critical habitat" to protect them.  Doug Vincent-Lang (NGP Photo), endangered species coordinator for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, diplomatically says, "We simply do not believe that the existing science justifies this expansive proposal."  Establishing a critical habitat designation means the Feds could take action to further control or stop human [...]

8-23-11 NOAA Chief Visits Alaska “Colony”

BING Definition of Colony: "country ruled by another: a country or area that is ruled by another country".  Alaska has 20% of America's land mass and 3/4 of her coastline.  Most of it is under federal government control.  Alaska has most of America's federally restricted lands.  Less than 2% of Alaska is owned privately, other than by Alaska Native Regional Corporations.  Yet, federal policies also impose restrictions on activity within state, private and Native lands.  Most of America's future domestic energy and strategic minerals could come from Alaska rather than from [...]

The “Me” Generation?

The Feds today released approval of a final supplemental environmental impact statement for Shell's OCS exploration  that, if finally approved following one last comment period, could result in mobilization of hundreds of workers next year.  Yesterday, a former 'unbiased' Obama appointee to the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling Commission, Frances Beinecke, wrote an Op-Ed for the New York Times criticizing this Alaska exploration.  Beinecke is also President of the Natural Resources Defense Council.  Like Deputy Interior Department Secretary David Hayes, Beinecke has equally strong connections to the enviro-extremist [...]

Delayed Alaska Gas May Mean More Oil Revenue – Using Alaska’s Constitution To Justify Selfishness

Breaking news.  A few minutes ago, the Alaska Gas Pipeline Federal Coordinator, Larry Persily (NGP File Photo), said he thinks the (AGIA/TransCanada) project is "very viable…," but to get someone to sign shipping commitments, "you're going to have to have a fiscal deal between the state and producers."  Check for more complete report tomorrow morning.  -dh More links to yesterday's hearings: KTVA, Channel 11. Beginning Comment.  Question regarding legislative hearings: Are Alaska's legislative leaders keeping their collective eye on the ball: filling the oil pipeline to sustain Alaska's economy? [...]

Persily Confirms His “Candid” Credentials – Feds Want Complete ANWR Lockup – McLeod Urges Federal Support

Alaska State Senate Resouces Meeting Today: Alaska Stand Alone Gas Pipeline Fairbanks News Miner Editorial re: Feds Want To Lock Up ANWR's 1002 Area.  Our Comment:  We believe the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (ANILCA) which created the 1002 area as an oil and gas province violated the Alaska Constititution and Statehood Act.  The wild and distructive actions of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and its Salazar/Obama masters will contribute to the dismantlement of the US economy and put one more nail into the coffin of Alaska's economy--and [...]

Alaskans Welcome Salazar But The Jury Is Still Out On the Federal Landlord’s Motives

Edmonton Journal: Enbridge, announcing increased profits over the past three months, is also expanding its plans to move oil to the U.S. Gulf Coast. Comment on Secretary Ken Salazar's Latest Alaska Visit by  Dave Harbour Today, the Associated Press' Becky Bohrer in the Seattle Times noted... ... that, "The Obama administration is interested in seeing more oil and gas development in Alaska, both onshore and off, but it wants to make sure that any drilling is done responsibly, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar (NGP Photo) said Monday."   In virtually all of his [...]

Salazar’s BOEMRE Grants Shell Exploration Permit, Conditionally – Inuvik Pushes For Gas Pipe and Economic Development – Mark Hamilton Levels the Guns of Logic On Anti-development Liberals

A few minutes ago, NGP received the copy of a "Make Alaska Competitive Coalition" statement by former University of Alaska President Mark Hamilton (NGP Photo) smashing a specious contention by Senator Hollis French and Representative Les Gara (i.e. both downtown Anchorage attorneys are schooled in the art of rhetoric) that Alaska's predatory taxes are good for Alaska.   Here is the document for your weekend study.    Between Obama anti-development regulators in the Federal arena and the same mentality hindering development on Alaska lands, the state has a dismal economic [...]

Biting the hand that feeds us….

Ramblings.  Yesterday in the Anchorage Daily News a longtime environmental gadfly wrote an opinion piece proposing additional obstruction to OCS development in Alaska.  A former professor employed by the University of Alaska, here's another hypocrite who takes a paycheck provided by natural resource revenues and for an entire career has little or nothing good to say about natural resource development.  God have pity on and provide insight to his students over the years who may have thought to disagree. Then there is Mayor Edward Itta (NGP Photo) of the North Slope Borough.  One has [...]
