5-24-17 Congress Takes On Misused Antiquities Act

“Consider how far the Antiquities Act has strayed from its original intent: The act states that monument designations should be limited to “the smallest area compatible with proper care and management of the objects to be protected.” In recent years, however, it has been used as a large-scale conservation policy, dictated by presidential decree. Many recent monuments have comprised more than one million acres each. “[A]n act that grants presidents such authority without Congress’ approval or local input should be viewed for what it truly is: an antiquated law.” [...]

5-16-17 MOVING NEB TO OTTAWA “DUMB” – Congress Wants Your Input On Bad Natural Resource Policy!

Moving the NEB from Calgary to Ottawa Hurts Consumers, Taxpayers and Also Moves Canada Closer to Socialism by Dave Harbour Christiana Figueres, former executive secretary of U.N.’s Framework Convention on Climate Change, admitted that the goal of environmental activists is not to save the world from ecological calamity but to destroy capitalism. “This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally…to change the economic development model that has been reigning…since the Industrial Revolution,” she said. Washington Monument. Northern Gas Pipelines file photo. Copyright Dave Harbour 2012 This Morning On The Hill From Molly Block: This morning the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations is looking into serious economic and environmental implications as a result of massive delays due to Section 7’s consultation requirements under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Ironically, many of these unnecessarily-hamstrung projects would improve conditions for threatened or endangered species – not to mention public health, safety and economic growth. Save your ink for the hearing’s Q&A, in the meantime [...]

3-12-17 Making Sure Our Readers Caught This Late Thursday Piece

If you missed it, please find our LATE Thursday piece on Crony Capitalism in Alaska and Washington right here.... We continue to ask to a non-responding bureaucracy: “Who in his right mind could think a $45 billion gas pipeline/LNG project could go well if it were owned by a non-accountable government of temporarily elected and appointed officials?” Big spending politicians, crony capitalists and related special interests seem to be in control of Alaska’s fate as we close out this week.

2-9-17 U.S. Congress Tries To Correct Obama Attack On State Land Use Control

To our Canadian & U.S. marketers Note from our Mid-Atlantic energy analyst guru: "...the market will not see a further meaningful increase in crude oil without some weakening of the dollar.   Also, natural gas will be hard pressed to move with conviction until the cost of capital (as indicated by the rate on the benchmark ten-year bond) rises." From our Southeast Alaska friend Denny DeWitt comes this letter requesting the Alaska Delegation to use the  Congressional Regulatory Review Act (CRA) to stop implementation of the new ROD for the Tongass Management [...]

1-25-17 Trump is right. Dakota trespassers are wrong.

Trump’s move on Keystone XL, Dakota Access outrages activists.  The Trump administration is pushing forward on plans for two major oil pipelines in the U.S., projects that sparked nationwide demonstrations and legal fights under .... Our comment:  Obama disapproved Keystone for enviro-politics after State Department recommended approval. So called Dakota Access "activists" include enviro-activists and are trespassing on federal land. Pipeline ROW is not on Indian land. Pipeline ROW is on private land. This is about the public interest and rule of law vs. private interests and anarchy. -dh

1-9-17 Honest Energy Folks Should Beware of Socialists

Dear Friends: Our long term readers know that this webpage was born over 15 years ago, when certain special interests sought to demonize some Alaskan and some Canadian energy interests.  One of our secondary goals has been to facilitate greater diplomacy and understanding among citizens of both countries -- in support of both separate and joint energy projects.  Hopefully, the sort of blog entry we have today will lead us ever closer to greater understanding among citizens of the two countries.  -dh   "...because that's where the [...]

12-22-16 Conquering our naïveté to save capitalism!

Killing Wealth Producing Energy To Kill Capitalism Requires Our Naïveté by Dave Harbour Courtesy: http://tinyurl.com/hjs5l85 Honest folks can be naive.  They assume the best of everyone but, ironically, treacherous ones among us require our naïveté to attack our way of life, as when the United Nations climate change Czar affirmed that the goal of environmental activism is to kill capitalism. President Obama's winning campaign slogan has been, "Change we can believe in", though the word "change" only became fully defined with systematic efforts to 1) increase constituent reliance on democrat largess [...]
