3-7-18 Alaska has a deficit budget and fiscal crisis but pours money into socialized, uneconomic energy projects!

Government subsidized Fairbanks natural gas scheme plods on... ...with insufficient customer base, insufficient long term gas supply, high cost barriers to fuel oil/gas conversion. This is one of two large,  socialized, Alaska energy projects that politicians continue to subsidize in the midst of a fiscal crisis highlighted by deficit budgets.  Neither the AGDC nor the IEP natural gas projects would now be burning cash if they were controlled by prudent, free market investors.  See references, below.  -dh LNG tank construction a sign of progress for Interior gas project (IEP),  Alaskajournal.com,   Backhoes are back [...]

2-15-18 BC-Alberta Pipeline Tensions Rise – Let’s Not Forget Alaska Either!

Danger Stranger by Dave Harbour Why are government officials in Alaska, Alberta and British Columbia so engaged in efforts to control utility/pipeline projects?  A.  Because that's where the money is (Ref: W.H.).  Ratepayers, Taxpayers, Citizens beware the elected elite and bureaucracy! DANGER-STRANGER We urge critical thinking Alaskans to be especially alert to utility/pipeline games.  With declining economy, unions and government workers, some utilities and compliant politicians (i.e. and croney capitalist businesses dependent on the foregoing) will naturally want to keep their constituencies WHOLE at the expense of [...]

1-23-18 Just remember….

Just remember... Private companies when filing with FERC and other agencies -- for energy projects or just for portions of a project regulated by a particular agency -- really have to have their acts together. Among that preparation is a reasonable degree of knowledge and proof -- acceptable to the board of directors as well as convincing to the agency -- that the project is real.  The application must be solid: environmental research/safeguards (i.e. air, water, earth and flora and fauna, including birds, mammals, fish), geological, cultural, archaeological, logistic, [...]

1-19-18 Alaska and Alberta: Resist Socialism!

Nicolas Maduro, Venezuela's socialist (i.e. communist) dictator. Comment: We continually urge Alaska and Alberta to control spending and taxation.  The two oil supported governments should resist the move toward socialism which unsuccessfully manages economies, kills economic growth, produces run-away unemployment and inflation and results in dictatorship and loss of freedom.  Following is an example of an oil-fired economy ruined by socialist dictatorship.  -dh Looting of food stores spreads in Venezuela as inflation tops 2600%.  Things are going from bad to worse in Venezuela as growing food shortages are [...]

12-29-17 Another Pipedream Hits The Dust

Editorial Comment: Your author served as director of public affairs for the Arctic Gas Project in the 1970s, a  component of which was a Mackenzie Delta gas transportation project. Canada's National Energy Board killed that project and your author then served as advisor to the Foothills (i.e. Alaska highway route) pipeline project which separated itself from the Mackenzie project.  That project proved to be infeasible in the 1980s as did a Dempster Highway alternative for Mackenzie Delta gas (i.e. Maple Leaf project). During the 80s your author served as government relations [...]

11-11-17 Veterans Day: Not A Time For Alaska Socialism

We oppose a socialist Alaskan economy on this Veterans Day! by Dave Harbour Alaska Governor Bill Walker. NGP File Photo by Dave Harbour Below, readers will find yesterday's statement from Governor Bill Walker that congratulates the Alaska State Senate on its passage of crime reform.   He goes on to criticise the Senate for adjourning without imposing more taxes on the private sector during 1)) a time of fiscal crisis, and 2) at a time when he is crafting a socialistic energy economy a la Venezuela (Read yesterday's [...]

11/10/17 We’re From the Government and We’re Here To Help!

Consumer Interests Are Best Protected by Free Enterprises and Not Government Enterprises by Dave Harbour Alaska's governor has taken FULL CONTROL OVER what amounts to a 'nationalized' North Slope natural gas project and has attempted to make it glitter with a supportive array of "memoranda of understanding" from Asian (i.e. most recently Chinese) countries.  Without political, uneconomic dealmaking, the project is infeasible at this time--even if it were more efficiently managed by the private sector.  This is because, with an 800 mile pipeline to fold into the LNG project's [...]

10-19-17 One Great Alaska Gas Boondoggle – WHY WE ARE SO PROUD OF EPA TODAY!

TODAY WE ARE VERY PROUD OF THE EPA AND HERE'S WHY! And Today ... ...we draw reader attention to the enormous waste of money called the Alaska LNG Project. Tomorrow ... Alaska Governor Bill Walker. Northern Gas Pipelines photo by Dave Harbour ...we will draw attention to the enormous waste and foolish decision making accompanying the subsidized, so-called Interior Energy Project: a misguided and uneconomic effort to provide 'affordable' gas to the Fairbanks area.  What do the two projects have in common: Alaska Governor Bill Walker, their biggest advocate! 10-13-17 Unhappy Case Histories: Canadians and Americans Can Learn From Each Other

Representative Rob Bishop, courtesy Civil Services. Yesterday, President Donald Trump announced the nomination of Kathleen Hartnett White to chair the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ). Chairman Rob Bishop released the following statement: “Kathleen Hartnett White is a great choice to help the administration realign priorities at CEQ. Over the past eight years, this executive office has attempted to use the National Environmental Policy Act as a tool to stonewall any project with a federal nexus. I look forward to working with her on a long overdue streamlining of [...]

10-12-17 Your Northern Energy Update

Warning: Alaska treads troubled economic waters in the middle of a fiscal storm.  Politicians are making the financial crisis worse by creating state subsidies and ratepayer risks.  The story below again reminds us of the Administration's payoff to Interior Alaska supporters via a subsidized Fairbanks gas utility (i.e. when South Central's Enstar customers paid for their own).   Not to mention the otherwise uneconomic Fire Island wind generation project and an infeasible Alaska LNG\pipeline scheme.   Note how two local politicians in the story below are discussing a strategy for squeezing [...]

9-1-17 Governor Walker of Alaska Makes Confusing/Damaging Energy Decisions

Is Alaska's Governor pro-development...but only as long as his state government calls the shots and does the developing?   (Below we find the Governor's confusingly supportive actions.  In the right column, we find more substantive actions contributing to a loss of investor interest and a more dangerous economic climate.)  -dh Alaska Governor Bill Walker.
